Pacific Championship Final 2023
It’s only been a few weeks since the NRL season finished, however Rugby League makes a welcomed return with the Pacific Championship Series. Let’s find a winner!
Australia vs Samoa
The Rugby League season officially comes to a close this weekend, with the final of the Pacific Championships to be played out between Australia and the Kiwis, who have undoubtedly been the two best sides to match up over the last few weeks. Australia had New Zealand’s number last week, but the Kiwis will no doubt turn up the heat this weekend and look to bounce back. It looks to be a blockbuster, and a great way to end another year of footy.

New Zealand have put themselves back onto the Rugby League map in the 2023 season with the success of the Warriors, and although they went out in disappointing fashion, the national squad have the opportunity to end the year on a high when they play host for the Final on Saturday. Australia, however, have looked in great touch so far throughout the tournament, which included a 36-18 hammering of the Kiwis, and will be extremely tough to beat no matter where they play.
New Zealand will no doubt be fired up for a home final against their trans-tasman rivals and I don’t think we saw the best of them last week, so look for them to at least improve and close the gap between the two sides come Saturday. However, the recent record between the two is not in New Zealand’s favor, with Australia winning 7 out of the last 8 matches between the two. Look for this to continue. Australia have been solid across the park in both games, and I think they come out on top with their experience and quality. If they can complete sets at a good rate and limit unforced errors, they will get the job done.
TIP: Australia 1-12 + Valentine Holmes anytime try-scorer
Australia to get the job done, with Val Holmes to build on his impressive national team record.
