The Schillaci Stakes
The Group 2 Schillaci Stakes has attracted a nice sprint field at Caulfield this Saturday. Track will be wet with plenty of rain leading into race day. Let’s try and find the winner.
Speed Map
There’s a good mix of on-speed horses and back markers in this. Zoustyle, Queen of the Ball and In the Boat will all be forward. Oxley Road has speed but probably sits behind them from Barrer 1. General Beau will be just ahead of Paulele stalking them, and Express Pass, Shelby Sixtysix and Ingratiating will be the ones swooping late.
Key Runners
1:
Was a very tough task thrown into the Moir first up but handled it well enough. Fitter now, bigger track, another good map, Mcdonald sticks, no issues on wet tracks and the price is more than fair. A good bet to have with plenty of boxes ticked.
2:
We’ll know the track pattern by this race and if they can run on, then he’s a clear winning chance. If not, well the market will price accordingly. Wet track no issue. Happy to risk off the great run last start but very wary and respect the trainer placing him here.
3:
Couldn’t entertain off anything he’s shown in the last three runs. Needs a spell.
4:
Up in distance to 1100m which will be an interesting test. Consistent and honest horse, for sure to be in the finish but $5 seems a bit short to win here. Happy to risk.
5:
First up here and usually performs well fresh. $12 seems fair and can win on an even track. No wins on soft but has placings. Happy to risk but no shock if he lobs up here.
6:
Few gear changes leading into this race. Just didn’t have the fitness last start. Can he get to the lead from the wide barrier with a good amount of speed underneath him? Beat some pretty decent horses in the Autumn and believe he’s a decent winning chance here with some luck. Market watch.
7:
Ok return down the straight at Flemington. Likely to end up near the back and can’t see him sprinting past these.
8:
One to watch to see if he can get back to his Group 1 place form. Fair odds for what he’s shown in both runs this prep.
9:
Led and won last start but the rail was red hot at the Valley like it usually is. Might get into a speed battle with a few others early.
Betting Strategy
We took on Paulele at the Valley and got the chocolates but I’m happy to swing back his way at the current price.
