The Premier Stakes
The Premier Stakes is a strong Everest prelude here with four in this race heading to the Grand Final in a few weeks. The track could really be affected by this part of the day so monitor conditions accordingly. Let’s try and find the winner.
Speed Map
Should be plenty of speed here. Apache Chase, Prime Candidate and Overpass can all lead. Mazu and Lost and Running will be very handy behind them. Private Eye should be settling midfield with Kementari. It’s Me and Masked Crusader will be the ones rattling home.
Key Runners
1: Lost and Running
Finished well behind Nature Strip, running wide on the track. Started $10 in that race, and now we get $2.40 against a few runners who went just as well, or can go better leading into this. Heavy track may be an issue as well if we get there. Top winning chance, but happy to risk at that price.
2: Masked Crusader
Was a good return last start, rattling home in the 2nd fastest last 600m, 400m and 200m of the race while being a bit keen early. Always settling last makes it difficult to back him with any confidence but anywhere near his best, he’s a way better chance than double figures. A heavy track hurts, prefer soft. Big chance, watch betting.
3: Mazu
Was a very nice run for his first crack against the top sprinters in the country. Fitter now, relishes all wet conditions, will be on speed and can unleash down the straight. Near $5 is way more appealing than being with the favourite. A good bet to have.
4: Apache Chase
Haven’t seen him since the Stradbroke which was a disaster as soon as he didn’t lead. Start before that though, he did lead and beat a good field. Wet track is the issue, with no wins from 3 starts on affected ground. If it gets worse, risk. If the track improves, watch the betting.
5: Kementari
Special K only finished a length off the winner last start despite finishing 5th. Was a good return. Tim Clark is an interesting booking, which could show intent to be more forward? Can bob up and win a race like this but $10 looks the right price with no value to back him.
6: Overpass
Pulled up lame, and battled home for 2nd last start behind Nature Strip which was a good run, albeit never looking like the winner. Doesn’t have to chase Nature Strip down this time though. Now at 1200m which looks his distance, this looks a great race for him. $7 is a good bet.
7: Private Eye
Another not seen since the Stradbroke and in that, came within a length of Alligator Blood, which looks pretty good right now. Good first up record, and track suits but might lack the fitness against a few of these. Place chance.
9: Shelby Sixtysix
Gets the wet track he likes but that’s about the only positive here. The deserving outsider in this field.
10: Prime Candidate
The track isn’t likely to suit him here. Will lead and have every chance but looks to be a bit too much talent around to run him down. Maybe consider if there’s a big leader bias.
11: Brutality
Thrown in with no trials. Hard to have any confidence he’ll do anything until we see it. Maybe one to follow from this.
12: It’s Me
Current favourite for the Koscisuko but this will be a good tune up for that. Finished very well last start, needing room for the last 200m. Mcdonald goes on. Good chance at good odds.
Betting Strategy
This will be a good race and I didn’t think there was much between the top four in the betting. Happy to bet around Lost and Running at the short odds to try and get him beat.
