The Moir Stakes
The Group 1 Moir Stakes kicks off a massive weekend of sport and racing, especially in Victoria and is usually a terrific race for the sprinters. A good field has been assembled for it with plenty of chances. There will be rain on the day so expect the track to be in the Soft range. Let’s try and tip you a winner.
Speed Map
Red hot here as you can probably guess over the 1000m. Generation, Malkovich get the inside draws and should lead them. Rothfire and Coolangatta have a chance to take the box seat. Zoustyle will have plenty to figure out from barrier 9. Expect many of them to be bunched behind that, with The Inferno and Extremely Lucky to be the one’s swooping at the end.
Key Runners
1:
Finished well enough last start but was never close to a winning chance. It’s the same story for The Inferno here, who will need a mountain of luck to win from a likely last position in run. $18 just not a price you want to take with so much needed to go right.
2:
You’re not doing too well if you’re taking on Godolphin as of late but first up at this distance seems a bit sharp for Paulele here. Gets Jmac but has plenty of speed all around so could get shuffled back and in between a few. Obvious winning chance but happy to take on as the favourite.
3:
Terrific win last start. Had the perfect camp on the two leaders and looks to get something pretty similar here. Fitter now, Lane sticks, Soft ground suits, tick tick tick. A good bet to have.
4:
Fought hard last start but wasn’t able to hold out Rothfire late. Barrier 9 could make things tricky with plenty of speed inside. Any ladder bias on the night will ensure he kicks up no matter what. Winning chance but prefer others.
5:
Folded pretty early in a slowly run race last start. Soft track helps along with King flying down to ride him. Will be on speed but it’s hard to see him holding everyone off. Place chance.
6:
Gets the barrier to lead and dictate where he’s at his best. First go at the distance but that won’t be an issue, or the track conditions. Trainer/jockey combo have to be respected. Big winning chance. Watch the betting.
7:
Was on the end of a savage betting drift last start ($2.15 – $2.80) and they were right, finishing third to the market mover Belle Niptoina who also lines up here. Was very wide late in that run and finished strong. Likely at the back with The Inferno and that means a similar ride will be needed here, against harder opposition. Talented, but happy to risk.
8:
Has never won at this distance in four attempts which is surprising. She’s classy and has the ability, but i’m happy to risk on this setup.
9:
Was well supported in betting last start as mentioned earlier. Have to respect the jockey and trainer combo here but barrier 11 may not mean the most ideal position coming into the turn. One to watch in the betting, or if the leaders aren’t dominating all night.
10:
Not sure the Valley will suit Isotope for her first attempt here. QLD form has been good in Melbourne and she performed well in the Group 1’s but this looks difficult.
11:
Barrier 10 makes it difficult but is a knockout chance at the odds if she can somehow sneak a position on speed. Will be tough late.
12:
Started favourite in the Mcewan against a few of these and now we get $10, easily the biggest price she’s ever been. Was fairly beaten in that race in a slow tempo, quicker here may suit. Kah sticks and hopefully won’t be too boxed in from the barrier. A good value bet
Betting Strategy
Happy to spec Rothfire and Coolangatta who look to get good runs on speed and will be finishing off very hard late.
