Magic Millions Guineas 2023
The 3yo Guineas has a nice field assembled this year with plenty of good runners from the Spring coming through. Let’s try and find the winner.
Speed Map
There’s some good speed here. Yellow Brick, Tijuana and Spiritualised can all go forward and lead or sit on pace. Hell I Am, Fashion Legend, Soothsayer and Stroll should all have good runs midfield. Russian Conquest could end up in a tricky spot worse than midfield with West of Africa.
Key Runners
1: 
Tijuana
Love him, and is a serious fighter. First up here though looks a big ask. Anything near his best, and he goes very close, but willing to risk just off the basis that I expect a fair bit of pressure around him early.
2: 
Fashion Legend
Has won three on the bounce over a few good horses. Settles on speed and has to be a decent chance of being in the finish again. The current odds seem pretty good value as an each way hope.
3: 
Kings Consort
Down in distance again which should suit him best. Can take a little while to wind up though and could be caught with too much to do late. Looks a fair price.
4: 
Yellow Brick
The current favourite. Four wins on the bounce with most races being run at even or slower tempos. Does the speed on expose him a little bit? Was happy to risk at $4 and look elsewhere.
5: 
Spiritualised
Will be one of the few on speed fighting for the lead. This is a step up but Jimmy Orman staying on is a tick. Market watch and for sure a winning chance.
6: 
Soothsayer
Has won three in a row for this. Wide barrier makes things a little tricky.Will need a bit of luck from those at the top of the market to win this. Expect it to drift slightly from the current price.
7: 
Hell I Am
Was unlucky last start but brings the best overall career figure in this race. Kah has ridden eight O’Shea Runners for four wins in her career. A lazy 145.5% POT if you backed all of them. Market watch and looks a good winning chance.
10: 
Green Shadows
Last 3 starts have lost by a length combined so he’s been well and truly around the mark without winning. Looks a fair price to win this but certainly wouldn’t shock if he’s in the finish again.
12: 
Stroll
Has had plenty of 3-4 week breaks between runs, so onl a two week break should allow a bit more fitness for this. Has plenty of decent runs but is 1400m a slight query? Hard runner to to figure out. Was happy to risk we’ll see a win here.
14: 
Russian Conquest
Started $13 in the Thousand Guineas over the Spring. Last start at Gosford absolutely savaged the line. Anywhere close enough on the turn, looks to be one of the strongest late. McDonald on another big tick. Looks a very good winning chance at nice odds.
15: 
Latakia
Is a nice horse but looks to have a very difficult task trying to hold out this field from the front with Clark on. Happy to risk against a few others.
Happy to ignore the rest.
Betting Strategy
This should be a great race. Russian Conquest looks good odds with McDonald on to win this with the likely good tempo to allow him to sprint home fastest right over the top.
