JJ Atkins

It’s a massive day of racing at Eagle Farm and the first Group 1 of the day is the J.J. Atkins. In a deep race, let’s try and find the winner.

Queen Elizabeth Stakes: Tips and Preview

Speed Map

The track has been played very fair recently and all runners should get their chance to win. Could be plenty of speed early. Lethal Thoughts & Basquiat could surge forward. Sharp ‘n’ Smart and Political Debate may end up in the back half. Sheeza Belter & Brereton will be on the speed.

Key Runners

1:jockey silksBrereton

The most intriguing runner of the race. Will 1600m be an issue late? Can’t discount the Moody and Kah combo here and will be in clear air in the straight. Wouldn’t discourage a place bet.

4:jockey silksPolitical Debate

Only fell in last week but was a big win fending off Sharp ‘n’ Smart on the line. McDonald sticks, and probably finds a better spot in the run but will he be behind the main danger? Looks a big chance again. Happy to take anything over $4.

9:jockey silksOwen County

Last start win was very good, but was on a heavy track and won’t get that here. Where does it settle in run? Obvious talent but $10 seems slight unders. Monitor the betting late.

10:jockey silksSharp ‘n’ Smart

Has been backed into favourite over Political Debate since odds opened. Was very strong late last week but just missed against Political Debate by a bob. Set to peak for this race and looks a massive danger. $4 seems good odds.

16:jockey silksSheeza Belter

Pike sticks after a terrific win last week. A repeat of last week probably takes her very close to winning here, but that is going to be hard to pull off. I’d need $8 or more.

Betting Strategy

The two favourites look to have a bit on the rest here, and I’m happy to back both for a result and watch Bowman and McDonald fight it out late.
