Champion Mile 2023
Distance: 1600m | Conditions: WFA| Rail Position: 5m | Track Condition: Good 4
The Champions Mile has assembled a small but quality field here as we close out the carnival with plenty of winning chances about. Numerous top liners come out of the Cox Plate, making for a highly competitive race. Let’s try and find the winner.
Speed Map
Pride Of Jenni holds the key here. Will likely see her set a very strong speed and force Alligator Blood to track in behind which won’t be an issue. Mr Brightside will have no excuses and should box seat, while Fangirl won’t be too far off and have them in her sights.

Key Runners
1:
What a campaign Mr Brightside has put together, with his only glitch coming from his Sydney run. Put his best foot forward and was given a 10/10 steer by Willo in the Cox Plate last start, only to be denied by the tightest of photo finishes. He’s been up for a while, but is a gun miler and should be thereabouts again.
2:
The blood is flying! Sat on speed in the Cox Plate, loomed up and looked the winner at the 100m but was swamped late by two genuine stars. Pride of Jenni will ensure they go at a good gallop which this bloke will love. Tough as nails.
3:
The Tassie cult hero is as honest as they come and continues to build on his All Star Mile placing back in March. Just missed in a Theo Marks and with top ups in the Epsom and Toorak he’s ready to tackle this. I don’t think he’s going as well this prep but deserves his chance here. Could run a race at odds.
4:
Huge effort two back in the Toorak, coming from near last at the turn to finish within 1L of the eventual winner. His Crystal Mile run was a touch plainer but he’s racing well. Big ask to beat these.
5:
Clearly has ability but was miles off them in the Cox Plate. Was first run in Australia so can improve off it, but I can’t see how he can turn the tables on the top liners in this.
6:
Genuine star at the top of her game. The more you watch her Cox Plate run, the more merit it gets. Over-raced in the opening exchanges and then was held up on numerous occasions once they turned up the heat but she was flying. Granted, she got things all her way in the King Charles two back but made the most of it and was dominant. She can pull to the middle of the what will be rock hard Flemington track and explode again. She’s creeping towards a backable price.
7:
Interesting runner and holds the key to how this is run. Likely to go to the front and try run them off their feet like she did in the Empire Rose but don’t think it will be as effective considering the class level she’s stepping up to.
Betting Strategy
Fangirl is a star. She’s got her work cut out but think Flemington will suit her down to the ground.
