2021/22 BBL Final
We find ourselves in the same position as we were this time last year, Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers battling it out, after 56 grueling games, for the 2021/22 Big Bash Title. This year holds more significance than others, with the mantle of being deemed the most successful Big Bash Franchise in the league’s history on the line, the winner claiming their 4th title.
Scorchers go into the decider hot favourites, and rightly so. Despite being locked out of their own state for a good part of 2 months, going off squad depth and form, the Scorchers will be hard to hold out of the winning circle. Mitch Marsh has been one of the most in form T20 batsmen there is, since his scintillating World Cup Final performance in the UAE last year. Marsh demonstrated just how devastating he can be to opposition sides when he crunched 100* off 60 balls against the Hurricanes during the season, which included six fours and five sixes. He is back to his “box office” best right now, and can be the deciding factor in this match.
Whilst losing their first qualifier to the Scorchers by 48 runs, the Sixers have had an interrupted lead into this season’s finals and limp into this Friday’s decider. Between Steve Smith’s bid to play rejected, COVID-19 protocols and niggling injuries ravaging the boys in pink, they will be left short of their best 11 for Friday’s match at Marvel Stadium. The most notable absences of those being Josh Phillipe and Jordan Silk. Despite that, there is still plenty of fire power that they can lean on, with the likes of Sean Abbott, Moises Henriques and Hayden Kerr, who comes off the back of a destructive 98* in the Challenger against the Strikers. You can’t write off the defending champions.
