Big Bash League Final 2023/24

SIXERS v HEAT

Curtains close on another Big Bash season tonight as the Sixers host the Heat in the BBL Final at the SCG. Thanks to some changes made by Cricket Australia on the back of much feedback, it’s been arguably the best season we’ve seen in quite some time and it’s only fitting we go out with a bang here!

The Sixers booked their spot in this year’s decider with a 39 run win over the Heat on the Gold Coast. The Magenta Men have dropped just the one game in their last five and are the form side of the competition, and at the right time. Their only other result against the Heat came in Coffs Harbour when they were handed a loss under DLS. A side carrying plenty of experience, with the likes of Henriques and O’Keefe, complimenting a side of stars such as Abbott, Phillipe and Silk, they now sit on the cusp of their fourth BBL title.

A year ago, the Heat fell agonisingly close to claiming their second BBL crown, but were toppled by the Scorchers with four balls remaining. With redemption on their mind, they’ve been the standout side this season and deserve their shot at the title. They were dominant in their Challenger Final against the Strikers on a tricky Gold Coast wicket, largely thanks to a record breaking 140 (57) from opener Josh Brown. His efforts were complimented by a career-best spell by fast bowler Spencer Johnson who has well and truly proved his worth across the season.

Although beaten by the Sixers in their qualifying final, and convincingly so, the Queenslanders will be more than confident they can get the job done considering they beat the Sixers in their Challenger Final at the SCG last season. Spencer Johnson will again hold the key with the ball while there are numerous batsmen who can put their hand up to take this Sixers bowling attack on. The Heat are a genuine T20 side and I think this will show on the big stage.
