Australian Guineas 2022
Not the most amazing Aus Guineas we’ve ever seen but still some good horses have lined up. The weather will be perfect and warm. Let’s try and find the winner.
Speed Map
Doesn’t look to be too much speed on here. Holymanz and Maximillius can take it up. Elkington Road and Elliptical will be somewhere on speed. Mr Maestro may be caught wide unless really pushing for the front somewhere. Amenable, Attrition and Jacquinot will all be swooping hard late.
Key Runners
1:
The clear class horse here. Hard to know what to make of him this prep, but is 2/2, albeit a protest needed. Drawn very wide here but will go back anyway. If any fast tempo, too far back? Slower the better. Looks the clear top winning chance but at $2.20, no major spoil.
2:
Beat a lot of these runners last start in the CS Hayes. Distance clearly no issue. Shinn sticks, looks to map well and will be hard to beat again. Good each way odds and a good winning chance.
4:
A good run behind Pericles last start but never looked like winning. Drawn very wide here, where does he settle? Hard to see a race shape that suits him, especially if they go slow and he’s side by side with Jacquinot. Odds looked fair but can run well.
8:
Distance will be no issue here based off his Caulfield Guineas run in the Spring, finish off very well. 2nd last start, but behind Glint of Silver? Hmm. Likely to get back here and may be in a tricky spot. Odds look fair to win.
9:
Has had a little bit of early market support. Was held up in the CS Hayes but still hung on for 4th in a career peak figure run. No wins at 1600m but has run well enough at the distance. The odds seemed decent value for a small each way play but will need to improve to be in the finish again in this.
13:
2nd in the CS Hayes behind Elliptical where he probably had his chance to win. No runs at the distance is a query. Maps to be on speed however and can dictate and be hard to run down. Consider if the pattern suits.
14:
Jockey change from J Fry to J Kah which is worth noting. Was fair in the CS Hayes but rattled home well. Has normally settled back but Kah is likely to get him in a better spot. Distance query? Looks a winning chance. Market watch.
15:
NZ Raider. Has only one loss, which was last start. Distance zero issue but could possibly prefer it a bit softer than what it will be. Can run well but hard to line up whether his best will be good enough here. Watch the betting late.
Can’t see any other running producing something to win this race.
Betting Strategy
It isn’t the most amazing betting race but Elliptical should have a serious position in run advantage on Jacquinot and can upset the favourite.
